Ear pinning surgery, otherwise referred to as Otoplasty,  can be performed on children as young as 5 years of age. Otoplasty surgery may be performed on adults of any age, assuming they are in good health and the proper candidate for this type of procedure.

An incision is made with the intention to be as inconspicuous as possible, which is hidden in the natural crease behind the ear. A small amount of skin is excised from the back of the ear, in addition to the ear cartilage being reshaped and contoured. The back of the ear cartilage is sewn into the proper position, allowing the ear to rest flatter against the head.

Otoplasty surgery takes about forty-five minutes to an hour (per ear) to surgically transform and is typically always done with the patient under general anesthesia to ensure the most comfort.

The recovery following Otoplasty is usually mild and tolerable. The ears are wrapped in soft bandages and dressings for a few days.  At night for several weeks after surgery a headband is typically recommended to be worn.   Avoiding strenuous activities for three to four weeks after surgery is advised, though driving and other daily activities should be OK after only a few days.
