Do you have bat wings, do you feel like your arms are sagging and you cant wear the dresses that you want? Are you embarrassed to wear sleeveless dresses? Have you lost weight and now have skin sagging from your arms? If so, there is now a relatively simple outpatient procedure that can rid the extra skin and sag and get you back to wearing your sexy sleeveless outfits. The arm lift or also referred to as brachioplasty is simply tailoring of the upper arm skin. This skin laxity can appear with aging or massive weight loss and can give what is sometimes referred to as a “bat wing” appearance. The procedure requires creation of an incision that is hidden when the arms are down from the armpit to the elbow, depending on the degree of skin laxity. The loose excess skin is marked for removal, and any fat attached to the area of skin that is to be removed is also removed in the process. The happiest patient after surgery is the person who has a large amount of excess skin. For patients with minimal skin laxity and only excess thickness or fat, there are other options that would not require a long incision such as liposuction or Cool Sculpting. This is because the disadvantage of having the scar still outweighs the appearance of the excess skin. If your “bat wings” are holding you back from your sleeveless attire, please give us a call for a consultation @ (310) 275-6600 BHPSG Brachioplasty, also known as arm lift, is performed to correct the excess hanging skin of the upper arm area.

Are you lids sagging and making it difficult to see? Due to the effects of time, heredity, and environmental influences the upper eyelids can start sagging and become heavy. As the lids progressively get heavier they can limit our ability to drive and conduct simple tasks of every day life. I(n cases of functional impairment, a very straightforward and rather simple operation called an upper blepharoplasty can remedy the problem and lead to a much improved quality of life. Upper eyelids may become sagging due to excess skin, drooping of the eyebrows, congenital or senile ptosis or a combination. A thorough examination will determine the cause and treatment. When upper eyelids become heavy enough, peripheral (side) vision may be impaired. Improving one’s side vision does not help with reading or seeing letters on an eye chart but rather helps us appreciate objects to the side and above. Prior to surgery we commonly refer to an ophthalmologist for a proper visual fields test to determine the severity. This test is required if an attempt is to be made to obtain insurance coverage of upper blepharoplasty surgery. Upper eyelid treatment is usually performed in an outpatient surgery center or sometimes in the comfort of our office procedure room depending on the severity. Sedation is typically administered intravenously so that patients do not feel any discomfort during the procedure. The procedure typically takes about 45 minutes and is outpatient. The recovery after an upper blepharoplasty is very easy and uncomplicated. There is minimal swelling and bruising and Tylenol is usually sufficient to alleviate minor postoperative pain. Patients are asked to use cold compresses on their eyelids for the first 24-36 hours after surgery and to avoid heavy bending and lifting for one week. While complications can occur following any surgical procedure, when upper blepharoplasty is performed by an experienced surgeon the likelihood of a serious problem developing is low. Call us for a consultation – (310) 275-6600 www.bhpsg.com

Many people believe they take great care of their skin and know exactly what is right for it. Many ask why should I pay someone to clean it for me? I wash my face morning and night and use all of the highest tech facial cleansing equipment and taking an hour out of my day is just too much time. However, getting regular facials is one of the best things you can do to help keep you and your skin looking young, fresh and rejuvenated. It is also important to understand what your skin type is, which a trained esthetician can teach you in order to know what products are really best for your skin. Professional facial treatments can be relaxing and rejuvenating, but also help set the stage for beautiful skin in the future. At BHPSG, our esthetician can provide a detailed and accurate analysis of your skin as well as create an appropriate treatment plan with recommendations for your home care to enable you to meet your skin care goals. When getting regular facials, you will notice that your skin will look and feel better then it ever has and make up will go on more smoothly making you look better then ever before! Typically a facial deep cleans, exfoliates & nourishes the skin to promote a clear, well-hydrated complexion. On your initial treatment, our esthetician will start with a skin analysis and explain which treatment will be best for you. She will then proceed with an hour long treatment using Eminence products, a completely organic line, which has products that address all different types of skin conditions. During the deep cleansing portion of the facial, our esthetician will rid the skin of dirt, debris and environmental toxins, allowing the skin to fight off disease, aging and enable your skin to better absorb the products applied months after your facial. Next, our esthetician will exfoliate your skin which will also boost your skins ability to absorb products. Exfoliating the skin involves removing the oldest dead skin cells on the surface of the skin. During this process, steam vapor is directed at your face to help open up pores even more to loosen dirt in your skin. Opening up the pores also allows for easier extractions (removing blackheads and whiteheads). Once extractions are done, you will receive a facial massage and masque which will bring nutrients and moisture to the deeper layers of the skin and promote a healthy glow as well as detoxify and relax you. After a facial with our esthetician, you will leave the office feeling great about yourself with healthier more beautiful skin! Give us a call today and schedule your facial with Talia!

If you are bothered by expression lines or noticed that you are looking a bit more grumpy lately, and it isn’t due to the lack of sleep from Christmas shopping, a brow lift may be right for you. Also known as a forehead lift, a brow lift minimizes the creases that develop across the forehead, or those that occur high on the bridge of the nose which improves what are commonly referred to as frown lines and re-positions a low or sagging brow. A brow lift raises the eyebrows to reveal a more alert and more youthful position. Eyelid surgery as well as a face lift may be done in conjunction with a brow lift to receive maximum benefits. A brow lift may sometimes be performed using an endoscope (surgical video device) and special instruments placed through small incisions made within the hairline. This allows the tissue and muscle beneath the skin to be re-positioned, altered or removed, correcting the source of visible creases and furrows in the forehead. Correction of a low-positioned or sagging brow may be made with or without the use of an endoscope through incisions at the temples and in the scalp. This technique may be done in conjunction with incisions hidden within the natural crease of the upper eyelids to eliminate frown lines between the brows, on or above the bridge of the nose. An alternative brow lift technique is the coronal brow lift. The coronal brow lift can pinpoint specific regions of the brow to correct. This technique involves an incision from ear to ear, lifting the forehead and removing excess skin from the scalp. Recovery time is often longer than the endoscopic brow lift due to the size of the incision. The incision lines from a brow lift are well concealed within the hair or natural contours of the face unless they are placed at the hairline to shorten the forehead. Results appear gradually as swelling and bruising subside to reveal smoother forehead skin and a more youthful, rested appearance. Initial wound healing may take 5 to 10 days, at which time any sutures or clips will be removed. You will be ready to return to work and normal activity at this time. Cosmetics can camouflage any bruising that remains. Healing will continue for several weeks as the swelling dissipates and incision lines refine and fade and it may take several months for your complete recovery. Life-long sun protection will help to maintain your rejuvenated appearance by minimizing photo-aging or sun damage. At Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group, we have many sunscreens to keep you protected. Interested in a brow lift? Give us a call today to schedule your consultation!
