With CoolSculpting rapidly becoming our most popular and most scheduled treatment, we wanted to address the most commonly asked questions by our patients in regards to CoolSculpting! 1. How long is each treatment? – Each treatment, or each area treated, takes an hour. Meaning if you are treating two areas, such as the love handles, you will be here for approximately 2 hours. We do suggest giving yourself at least an extra half hour added to treatment time as it does take a few minutes to switch the device to the next area. 2. Is CoolSculpting painful? What does it feel like? – When the treatment begins, during the first few minutes, you will feel some pressure and intense cold. After about 5 minutes, this feeling dissipates and most of our patients will read, work on their laptop, talk on the phone or simply take a nap! Some side effects after treatment can be redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness to the touch, tingling and numbness. While most of these side effects go away over the next few days, numbness can persist up to several weeks after the procedure. 3. Can I return to work same day? – Yes! The procedure is completely non-surgical, so you may return to normal activities immediately. You may experience some temporary tenderness, minor bruising, tingling or swelling, however, this will subside and resolve over a few days and most of our patients return to work right after the session is over. We also offer a compression garment, called Skineez, which does seem to make some patients more comfortable following the treatment as it helps with swelling, although this is not necessary for the healing process! 4. Do men do this treatment frequently? – Absolutely! To be honest, most of the treatments done are on men! 5. When will I see results? – You may start to see changes as soon as three weeks after your treatment, with the most dramatic results visible after two months. However, your body will continue to flush out fat cells and change for up to four to six months after the treatment! 6. How many treatments are necessary? – Many of our patients are happy with the results they see after one treatment! However, you may get a second treatment on an area 2 months after the first treatment with two treatments being the max we would recommend. 5. Are results permanent? – When you have your CoolSculpting treatment, the affected fat cells will be eliminated. As long as you maintain your weight with your normal diet and exercise, your long-term results should remain stable. Get your sexy body back in time for summer with CoolSculpting!

I have always had extremely stubborn fat on my stomach. No matter how many sit ups or ab exercises I did, I could not get rid of that belly pooch. Now I will admit that while I do work out every day, I wouldn’t necessarily say I watch what I eat. I definitely eat in moderation and try to eat healthy but I’ve never been one to turn down a cookie or a slice of pizza. Up until a month ago, my only real option was to get liposuction if I wanted to really sculpt my stomach. Then came CoolSculpting by Zeltiq. I had heard of CoolSculpting and had seen the results online and they looked phenomenal. Of course I wondered though would this really work on me? I was lucky to be the patient to receive treatment during training and wanted to share my experience before, during and post treatment. After getting all marked up for the two areas on each side on my love handles (4 areas total) I got prepped to have the machine put on. First they put a VERY cold gel pad on the first area to be treated. This pad is to prevent you, as the patient, from getting hurt at all if the machine malfunctions in anyway. It is sort of like a barrier. To be honest, this was the hardest part of the entire procedure, it is cold, like jumping into a cold pool after sitting in the jacuzzi. After that, they had me sit on the chair and positioned the applicator and turned the suction on. It is definitely a strange feeling but completely tolerable. I then laid down, positioned myself comfortably and they turned the cold on. The cold sensation is different and can feel a little uncomfortable but completely tolerable and after 5 minutes, I was completely numb. I spent the next 60 minutes talking on the phone, reading a magazine then watching an episode of a tv show. 60 minutes later they removed the machine, which hurts for a small second as they pull it off but then completely fine and the has the area massaged out. This was a tad uncomfortable but only for about 10 seconds. I flipped over and did the second side then, same routine. Immediately after the procedure I had some bruising but nothing bad. I got redressed and went back to work as if nothing had happened. Since I am a side sleeper I took some Tylenol before bed as my sides were tender but nothing some Tylenol or Advil couldn’t help. I did my lower abdomen a week later as well which was just as easy. I am about 5 weeks out and I can say the results are pretty astonishing already. The photos speak for themselves but I can honestly say I am shocked and so incredibly happy. 3 hours and no down time (I was back in the gym the next day after treatment both times), this procedure is a dream come true for those who do not have the time to take time off work or just have no wish to go under the knife. I cannot wait to see the results at 90 days! For more information on CoolSculpting and to see if you are a good candidate give us a call and schedule your consultation!

One session. One hour. No Surgery. No downtime. Sound too good to be true? It’s not with Zeltiq CoolSculpting! Discover the latest and greatest, non-invasive treatment for amazing body contouring results! Freeze away your fat with one hour of treatment (per area), six weeks to see the difference (up to 30% reduction of fat!), and a lifetime to enjoy the results! Are you frustrated with that muffin top, love handle and belly pooch that seems to just stick around no matter how much you diet and exercise? Before you had two options: live with it or have surgery, which requires recovery and taking time off work, an option many just don’t have. Not with CoolSculpting! Only CoolSculpting targets fat cells alone, eliminating them in an easy, non-invasive fashion that enables you to leave the office in an hour and go about your day! On the day of your consultation, Dr. Danielpour and Dr. Layke will discuss and evaluate your problem areas. After making a treatment plan you can book your CoolSculpting treatment for that same week or day if the schedule permits! Depending on your treatment plan, most patients will be in office on their day of treatment from 1-3 hours (each area of treatment takes one hour). On the day of your treatment, the doctors will mark the areas discussed during your consultation that you will be treating and get you comfortable in the chair. A cold patch will be applied to the first area being treated and then the CoolSculpting device will be attached. The first few minutes you will feel pressure and cooling sensation that may feel strange however after a few minutes this dissipates. You will then lay comfortably with pillows and a blanket for the next hour. You can talk on the phone, do work, watch a movie or simply relax and chill out! You will have a buzzer that will buzz a staff member if you have any issues or discomfort during your hour. After the 60 minutes, one of our staff will massage the treated area for 2-3 minutes and either start your next treatment or book your next appointment for either your next area to be treated or for your 2-3 months follow up. That easy and simple. You ba In the 3-4 days to follow, you may experience some tingling, pulling or burning sensation which is completely normal. Our office is always available to answer any questions or concerns you may have! After one visit, you’ll typically see a noticeable reduction of fat. It takes a few months to fully realize the effects, mainly because it takes that long for your body to naturally dispose of the fat cells. While most see the results they are looking for after one treatment on an area, we do recommend two treatments to get the best results possible! Call us today and schedule your consultation!

We have all heard the phrase “if it’s too good to be true, then it probably is”. In the world of cosmetics and plastic surgery the word “lunchtime” before any procedure immediately loses credibility. For years we have heard of the minimally invasive “lunchtime facelift,” that was wrought with complications and worked in some most patients for up to a year. Now we are hearing about Zeltiq, the “lunchtime” liposuction, which boasts a noninvasive, painless way of removing unwanted fat. Obviously as physicians trained in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, we are very skeptical. We are always looking for the latest technology to reach an end result, but we are driven by evidence-based medicine and have yet to see the “quick and easy way” prove to be reliable and reproducible. With that being said, what is the difference between liposuction and Zeltiq, a.k.a. “coolsculpting?” We will try to describe the main points below. Keep in the back of your mind the following: In general, with current technology, painless and noninvasive procedures are not effective for the masses. Sure, a few anectodal evidence may show improvement, but it can be extremely disappointing to pay a few thousand dollars, only for it not to work! What is liposuction? Read about this fat removal surgery on our liposuction page. What is CoolSculpting and how does it differ from all existing fat reduction procedures? Read about CoolSculpting. Here are some advantages of CoolSculpting: • No downtime • No need for anesthesia • Pain-free • No incisions • Cheaper than traditional liposuction SO…What’s the conclusion? It is obvious that the dramatic results that are obtained with traditional liposuction can not be obtained with a noninvasive fat reducer, Zeltiq. From our discussion with patients and doctors who have had experience with CoolSculpting or other non-invasive means of fat reduction, it is clear that the claims that are made are for less than 50% of the patients treated. It is true that there is no downtime, however there CAN BE pain associated with the procedure which sometimes lasts for months and is a shooting and electrical pain that is very bothersome. This may be due to sensory nerve damage, and the shooting pains are nerve regrowth. Furthermore, the cost is variable and at times might run significantly higher than GOOD liposuction that gets rid of the problem areas once and for all with ONE procedure. In our experience, we have been asked about every modality to reduce fat and have evaluated each modality’s effectiveness. Zeltiq looks like a variation on a very similar theme as each new laser surfaces. This time cold temperatures are used to kill the fat as opposed to ultrasound. There is, of course, no good objective evidence that this does much of anything. Current literature shows a decrease in fat layers by 1.8mm at 4 months. 1.8 MILLIMETERS! This was a multicenter, prospective, non-randomized study* that only included 32 patients that showed “promising results.” We doubt this freezing non-invasive technique accomplishes much in the average patient. Safe and effective might be two different things here. We’ll see how this one is received as time passes. Our Opinion: C- Out of 10 patients who undergo this procedure… 2 are extremely happy with results = 20% 2 are somewhat happy with results = 20% 4 patients noticed minimal improvement = 40% 2 patients noticed no improvement = 20% * Dover J, Burns J, Coleman S, et al.
